In a little more than two weeks, we’ll behold a celestial event — a total eclipse with the Twin Lakes Area smack dab in the middle of its path of totality. Midday will briefly turn to night as the moon blocks the sun, then sunlight will return for the rest of the day. At least that’s how it’s supposed to go barring any other cosmic occurrence.
One thing I kind of decided to (not) do with this column was make it a religious or political column, seeing as how we have a healthy abundance of both from all sides of the spectrum. But in this case, I’m going to break my rule and share an epiphany, if you will, and expose a little of my heart in a way that maybe some will identify with.
My late mother-in-law, who hated that term — “Amy’s mother,” she demanded — loved The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Watching generational rivalries on social media is fun, especially when generations try to one-up each other with their experiences. Remnants of the Greatest Generation and we Baby Boomers smile as the whipper-snappers debate who’s the toughest, who grew up the hardest, whose youthful experiences were best while we know to whom that truly applies.
